HOW DRAG RACING WORKS TOP
The following information is refering to a typical Tuesday night club meeting. PDNR also organise other events which may vary from the format outlined below, please refer racing info
Practice: It is not anticipated that the drag strip will be available for any practice for the Friday night events due to the limited time available. This may not be the case for subsequent Saturday night events, but this will be confirmed closer to the date.
Qualifying: An entrant’s single best ET (Elapsed Time) will count towards their Qualifying position. Entrants will have one (1) pass per round of Qualifying, with a minimum of two (2) qualifying rounds being offered at the event. Entrants will alternate lanes having one qualifying pass in LANE A and the other qualifying pass in LANE B.
Qualifying Procedure: Shortly before the start of qualifying for a specified division e.g. Top Fuel, entrants will be announced to the staging area (which is located behind the starting line). Entrants are advised to bring all equipment required to start and operate their vehicle to the staging area. Qualifying order will be based on registrations. The first two entrants will complete their one (1) qualifying pass, thus completing their first round. They are to then return slowly down the return lane, return cars to the pit area and wait for Round 2 of Qualifying. While the first two entrants are returning, the next two entrants will complete their one (1) qualifying pass and return back to their pit area. This will continue until all entrants have completed one qualifying pass. Round 2 of qualifying will follow the same order as Round 1, with entrants having one (1) pass. Please Note: Round 2 passes will be in the opposite lane to Round 1.
Eliminations / Finals: The top 8 from each division at the conclusion of Qualifying will progress to the Elimination Finals. Finals are single-top-eliminator, in other words, you loose, and you’re out!
Eliminations
will be run as:
1 v 8
2 v 7
3 v 6
4 v 5
In the event of a Final with less than 8 qualifiers, the highest qualifiers will have a bye run. In the event of a bye run, the entrant has the option to choose whether they wish to complete a pass or not. This decision is to be made known to race control prior to the run. Lane choice during Elimination Finals will initially be based on Qualifying position, with subsequent lane choices based on ET.
Staging & Starts: To ensure the event runs on schedule, a number of strict time conditions will be employed. Entrants must ensure they are aware of their race order and are ready to compete on time. A maximum of twenty (20) seconds is allowed between runs. After the starting lights (Christmas tree) are reset by Race Control, a timer on the screen will be started. The following pass must be started within this time otherwise both entrants will be disqualified. When staging, vehicles must be rolled in from behind that stage line. Entrants are permitted to hold vehicles up at Pre-Stage ie. one (1) amber light, but vehicles must be released as soon as a vehicle is Fully-Staged ie. two (2) amber lights. After the first vehicle is Fully-Staged, there will be a maximum of three (3) seconds before the starter commences the lights. If the second vehicle is not Fully-Staged within this time, they will miss their pass and have No Time Recorded (N/T). Entrants are not required to wait for their opponent. If one entrant is ready before their competitor, they should take advantage of this regulation.
Note: The above time limits may not apply during the Finals, particularly when an entrant is required to immediately back-up after a winning pass.

WHAT TO BRING TOP
As we run in a car park, there are a few items we suggest you bring to help your night go a little smoother.
- A table/work bench of some description is good. It gets you
and your car off the ground and in a more comfortable position.
- A torch or portable light is very handy. As we race at night, you sometimes
need a bit more light than the car park provides.
- Spare frequency crystals are always a good idea for your race box.
- Spare batteries are also a good idea.
- Your car, radio, fuel and starting gear... and anything else you need to run
your car.
ABOUT THE CHAMPIONSHIP TOP
PDNR are excited to invite you back to a re-vamped 2008 Drag Night Series. The structure of the PDNR Drag Nights has changed this year to create a six round series, with events held throughout 2008. There have been refinements made to the division specifications, and the format and structure of qualifying and finals has also changed. It is hoped that these changes will shape the PDNR Drag Night Series closer towards pure drag racing, with more emphasis being placed on purpose built drag vehicles.
The 2009 Drag Night Series is being held over nine rounds. Points will be awarded to entrants after each round, and awards/trophies will be presented at the conclusion of the 2009 Drag Night Series.
Points will be awarded as follows:
|

Note: Bonus points only applicable if they are backed up by another pass within +/- 5% of record breaking run at the same meeting. If the record breaking pass is completed in a Final, the entrant has maximum of 5 minutes to attempt to back up run.
Records: As 2008 is the launch of the new PDNR Drag Night Series with new divisions and improved timing equipment, official records will begin with events in this series. Times and speeds from previous PDNR Drag Nights will not be recognised.
Disqualifications & Fouls: Penalties may be incurred by an entrant that does not comply with the rules governing the event.
In decreasing order of importance, the following are grounds for disqualification, and in certain instances, expulsion and/or suspension.
(1) Unsportsmanlike conduct, physical assault, abuse of race officials, or any conduct detrimental to racing.
(2) Intentional delaying of a race (sandbagging), 20 second rule will be enforced in eliminations
(3) Failure to comply with class requirements.
(4) Contact with timing equipment
(5) Touching or crossing the Timbers
(6) Red light foul start.
(7) Handling of a car after both cars in full stage
(8) Any condition considered to be unsafe, unfair, or out of order.
Every race must have a winner. In cases where both drivers are disqualified during the same race, the policy is that the first offender is disqualified and the other driver reinstated, providing the grounds for disqualification were equal. However, in most cases, there are varying degrees of rule infractions, with the policy being that the driver committing the major offence is disqualified; the driver with the lesser Offence is reinstated. This system is commonly referred to as “first or worst”.
In all cases of disqualification, the club official will make the final decision.
Scrutineering: All vehicles are required to undergo a safety and a technical inspection prior to qualifying.
This inspection will cover all class specifications to determine whether or not your car is legal. Drivers must race the car they had inspected. The scrutineer may inspect any car at any time during the meeting, even if it has been previously inspected. If the scrutineer wishes to inspect a car after a pass then the car must be taken to the scrutineering table immediately. All record claimants must allow their cars to be inspected after the race. Race or accident damage or distortion will be disregarded. In the event of a dispute, onus of proof rests with the competitor and the scrutineers decision is final.
Head Scrutineer David Ricketts
Second Scrutineer Luke Gunton
If at any round Head or Second Scrutineer is not available then a scrutineer will be appointed by drag section committee members.
*NOTE: All nitro vehicles are to have either a disc brake, drum brake or another approved braking system. A throttle return spring or equivalent device such as a surgical rubber band must be fitted to nitro vehicles.
Divisions: In the 2008 Drag Night Series the follwing classes will be offered. A Detailed Specification can be found in our Drag Racing Guidelines. At least 3 entrants are required for a division to be offered. If a vehicle does not totally comply with the specifications, the most appropriate class will be nominated:
