NSW STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three PDNR members did us proud when they competed against the best of Australia in the NSW State Championships in March earlier this year. The 2002 NSW State Championships were hosted by the New South Wales Radio Control Racing Car Club (NSWRCRCC) at the John Grant Raceway at Moorebank, Sydney. Tony Firth, David Wowk and Eddy Skaf took up the task of racing at the elite level of 1/8 scale, with David also competing in the highly contested 1/10 Nitro Tourers. The championships ran over four days with practice, qualifying and finals giving our guys plenty of track time. Track time was definitely needed by our guys, as it was their first major race meeting for all of them in the 1/8 class.
Tony, David and Eddy thoroughly enjoyed their experience, however all were troubled with little problems which limited their opportunity to really show their driving talent. Their laps times constantly dropped with every outing so with some more track time who knows where they will finish. All three made the 10 minute semi final which took a little getting used to as they were used to the 5 minute races at Penrith.
The 1/8 scale Picco Integra was the car all three were running and there were a total of five Picco's entered in the event. David was running a Kyosho V One-R in the Nitro Tourers. The Picco team managed good placings but were outside the top 10. The Results of the PDNR and Picco Drivers is as follows:
