TRAILER WORKING BEE - 26/05/02

It sounded like a simple task to some, and a massive task to others. The trailer needed a new front A frame and a few bits to go with it. Get a bit of steel and bring the welder over and maybe even relax for a BBQ lunch and tidy up a few odds and ends afterwards. But this was not the case.

I was up too early again (not used to the mornings!) and with the car packed full of goodies, headed over to Peter's backyard. Kevin and Peter had the trailer ready for us when I arrived and Liz and Catherine were taking coffee orders. Kevin set off for the oxy set, a few cutting discs, some welding wire, a tow hitch, some paint and the new jockey wheel. By the time Kevin returned, Pete, Steve, Tony, Graeme and Ron had turned up - lucky Peter has a big backyard!

Off with the old drawbar - five minutes with the oxy and about twenty minutes with the grinder. We salvaged the chain and threw the rest. The wiring was new anyway so we curled it up for later. We cut the new drawbar pieces, and welded into place. The chain went back on, as did the new jockey wheel. Now we just needed to attach the new tow hitch. Steve and Ron headed off to find a suitable piece of steel (on a Sunday ??). I guess it's not what you know, but who you know. In the meantime Kevin, Peter, Liz, Tony and Pete W, were finishing off the go kart tyres. What was there to do then? We decided to arrange the trailer in a better way, making Tuesday night setup a little easier (hopefully!). We also needed a few more barricades so Kev and Tony had been out for some more wood and cor-flute so with the help of Graeme, Pete W and myself, we got them together in no time at all. Try and get a cordless drill out of Tony's hands! Whilst the trailer was getting welded all over, a new bar here and a bit of a divider there, Tony had a red fest! We whipped up a template and he painted all of the new barricades (without getting too much on his hands this time). The trailer also got it's tow hitch fitted, some posts for the witches hats and a quick coat of paint. With new tables on the way, a bigger BBQ for Gwen and maybe a light here and there, we'll have the best looking and organized trailer in NSW. (For R/C cars anyway!) All in all a long day for some, but well worth the effort. Thanks to all that helped out.
