RACE RESULTS - 2004 PDNR 2.4 HOUR LE MANS

On Saturday, December 4, 19 teams with a combined 79 drivers/team members competed in another brand new event on the racing calendar...the inaugural 2.4 Hour Le Mans. Designed as another fun PDNR event, this race was based on a 1/10 scale 24 hour endurance, just scaled down to suit the cars!

The teams first challenge was qualifying for their position on the grid. This was based on each team's single best lap time in a 20 minute open qualifying session. The teams that spent maximum time on the track benefited from the extra laps and posted the quickest times while gaining more valuable track time on the new -HUGE- track layout. The 2.4 Hour Le Mans started in traditional Le Mans fashion. The cars were turned off and ready in pit lane, while on the other side of the straight, the pit crew were ready. The buzzer sounded and it was quite a sight to see 19 pit crew scramble across the straight attempting to be the first to start their cars and get their team away into some clear track. The pace was hot and the top 3 teams, who coincidently were all visiting from other clubs (NSWRCRCC & Mingara RC) showed many of the locals the potential of their scale machines. The 2h 24min went like a flash, and too soon the time had elapsed and the winners were crowned - Champions of the PDNR 2.4 Hour Le Mans. (See results below)

Congratulations must go to the winners, but also to every team that competed. It was a credit to all 16 teams that finished the race, especially as the criteria to finish was that the car had to be circulating and cross the line within 90 seconds of the conclusion of the race - hard luck to the DNF's, particularly Team Grandpa who were in 4th position only to have their engine move 4 minutes from the end and missed finishing by 10 seconds...that's racing as they say!
